Background
Abdullah Al Salem University (AASU) is a newly established, English-medium, research-based public university in Kuwait. AASU aims to provide an interdisciplinary environment for teaching and research. It also aims to nurture the development of novel and innovative solutions to address national and global challenges. The university is accepting applications for faculty member positions for the Fall and Spring of 2025/2026.
The College of Integrative Studies offers general education courses to the students of AASU who major in different disciplines such as engineering, computing, business, and medicine.
The focus of teaching and research covers a broad range of traditional, emerging, and interdisciplinary areas that will help address impending societal challenges. The curriculum is designed to prepare students for practical careers while integrating their studies within a strong liberal arts foundation.
AASU is hereby inviting applications for the regular and visiting ranks of Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor for the 2025/2026 academic year. Candidates must have a proven track record for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels, and have an established research record, demonstrated by publishing papers in refereed journals and other applicable research outcomes.
Expectations, Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Successful candidates are expected to teach courses in Arabic Language for academic studies. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching. A key component of this position is teaching and mentoring the incoming cohort from multiple program areas (engineering, business, medicine, and computing studies). Additionally, faculty members are also expected to work closely and maintain continuous affiliation with relevant research centers at AASU.
Specifically, faculty members at the college will be responsible for:
- Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses.
- Developing and reviewing all aspects related to the academic courses in such a manner that meets all standards of standardized curriculum, is relevant to student needs, and is linked to the mission and vision of AASU.
- Preparing progress reports as well as annual accreditation reports.
- Contributing to a thriving research program by engaging in national and international scientific collaborations.
- Mentoring and advising undergraduate students.
- Engaging in continuous scholarly activities and professional development.
- Serving on program level, college level, and university level committees.
- Performing any additional duties assigned by the program chair, college dean, and AASU management.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social studies, Arabic, or Education with a concentration in Arabic and a GPA of very good or equivalent.
- PhD. in social studies, Arabic, or Education from a reputable university.
- Applicants should have a distinguished teaching record, including experience teaching at an academic institution.
- Applicants must have a proven track record of research, including high quality publications in the relevant field in refereed journals: at least 3 for assistant professors, 7 for associate professors, and 15 for full professors.
- Recent publications must be in the field of the program the applicants are applying for.
- Applicants must have a strong record of mentoring and advising students and supervising other student-related activities.
- It is preferable that applicants possess previous experience in administrative, academic, or executive committees at the program, college, or university levels.
- Applicants must possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as exceptional organizational skills, leadership skills in a multicultural and international environment with the ability to pursue and foster collaboration.
- All applicants' degrees must be listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) or approved by AASU.
- High level of professionalism and positive attitude.
- Ability to work under pressure and overtime when needed and adapt to changing priorities and environments, as well as a willingness to continue learning.
Required Experience
Applicants currently at least need to hold the position for which they are applying and have a minimum of 4 years (48 months) of residency in each rank before any academic promotion.
Full Professor
- A Full Professor must have experience as a faculty member of not less than eight years in an accredited university, listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) or approved by AASU, after being recruited on the rank of Assistant Professor.
- A Full Professor must have been scientifically recruited/promoted to the rank of Associate Professor and Professor at one of the institutions listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) or approved by AASU.
Associate Professor
- An Associate Professor must have experience as a faculty member of not less than four years in an accredited university, listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NABAQ) or approved by AASU after being recruited on the rank of Assistant Professor.
- An Associate Professor must have been scientifically recruited/promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at one of the institutions listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) or approved by AASU.
Assistant Professor
- An Assistant Professor must have experience as a faculty member of not less than two years in an accredited university, listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ)or approved by AASU after being recruited on the rank of Assistant Professor.
Required Documents
- Cover Letter - Introducing the applicant and stating what program and rank the applicant is applying for and why.
- Updated and comprehensive CV, which should include information on employment history, teaching experience, committees and administrative experience, full list of publications, research activities and grants, students’ supervision, consulting, honors, awards, and others as applicable.
- Scanned copies of all academic degrees and transcripts.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness, including the student evaluation records.
- Statement of research interests.
- Statement of teaching philosophy and interests.
- Official documents of chronological experience.
- Names/affiliation and contact details of at least three professional referees.
Authenticated copies of all degrees must be provided by shortlisted applicants.
