Background

Abdullah Al Salem University (AASU) is a newly established English-medium, research-based public university in Kuwait. Dedicated to fostering an interdisciplinary environment for teaching and research, AASU is committed to developing innovative solutions that address both national and global challenges. The university also supports fresh Kuwaiti PhD graduates in joining its academic community to contribute their expertise and add value. AASU is hereby inviting applications for a full secondment for the purpose of appointment position for the 2025/2026 academic year.

Expectations, Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The selected faculty members are expected to teach deep subject knowledge including teaching key concepts, current and relevant research, methodologies, tools and techniques, along with meaningful applications. Additionally, faculty members are also expected to work closely and maintain continuous affiliation with relevant research centers at AASU.

Specifically, faculty members at the college will be potentially participating in:

·         Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses.

·         Engaging in interdisciplinary basic, applied, or policy research.

·         Contributing to a thriving research program by engaging in national and international scientific collaborations.

·         Receiving grants from local and international funding agencies.

·         Mentoring and advising undergraduate and graduate students.

·         Engaging in continuous scholarly activities and professional development.

·         Serving on program level, college level, and university level committees.

·         Performing any additional duties assigned by the program chair, college dean, and AASU management. 

Required Qualifications

·        Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, or science from an accredited university with a minimum GPA of very good or equivalent.

·        For the Mathematics positions, the applicant must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics or Statistics with a GPA of at least 3.00 (out of 4.00) or equivalent.

·        For the Physics positions, the applicant must have a Ph.D. in Physics with a GPA of at least 3.00 (out of 4.00) or equivalent.

·        For the Chemistry positions, the applicant must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry with a GPA of at least 3.00 (out of 4.00) or equivalent.

·        For the Biology positions, the applicant must have a Ph.D. in Biology with a GPA of at least 3.00 (out of 4.00) or equivalent.

·        Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree from an institution listed under the "List of universities of full secondment for the purpose of appointment in Sciences (https://tinyurl.com/56ubfs7m) ."

·        Applicants' Ph.D. Degrees have to be obtained in 2021 or after.

·        Recent research activities should be in the field of the program the applicants are applying for.

·        Applicants should possess strong communication skills (in English), both written and verbal, as well as exceptional organizational skills and leadership skills in a multicultural and international environment with the ability to pursue and foster collaboration.

·        All applicants' degrees must be listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) or approved by AASU. 

Required Achievements for Appointments as an Assistant Professor 

·        Applicants must hold the position of full secondment for the purpose of appointment for at most three years at AASU.

·        Applicants must have a minimum of three journal publications in Q1 or Q2 journals, published after earning their Ph.D. and affiliated with AASU. At least one publication must list the applicant as the first author, and none of these publications may be derived from the applicant's master's or Ph.D. thesis.

·        Applicants must possess a Web of Science and/or Scopus H-index of at least 5.

·        Applicants must demonstrate teaching performance evaluations of at least 80% in a minimum of six different courses.

·        Applicants must achieve an annual performance evaluation score of at least 80% for the past two years.

·        Appointment is contingent upon successfully passing the required interviews and obtaining approval from committees at the program, college, and university levels. 

Required Documents

1.      Cover Letter - Introducing the applicant and stating what program and rank the applicant is applying for and why.

2.      Updated and comprehensive CV, which potentially include information on employment history, teaching experience, committees and administrative experience, full list of publications, research activities and grants, students’ supervision, consulting, honors, awards, and others as applicable.

3.      Scanned copies of all academic degrees and transcripts.

4.      Evidence of teaching effectiveness, including the student evaluation records.

5.      Official documents of chronological experience.

6.      Names/affiliation and contact details of at least three professional referees.

Authenticated copies of all degrees must be provided by shortlisted applicants.
