Background

Abdullah Al Salem University (AASU) is a newly established English-medium, research-based public university in Kuwait. AASU aims to provide an interdisciplinary environment for teaching and research. It also strives to nurture the development of novel and innovative solutions to address national and global challenges. AASU is accepting applications for faculty member positions for the Fall and Spring of 2025/2026.

The College of Health & Medicine at AASU, in collaboration with King's College London, offers a rigorous and comprehensive program in the field of medicine:

§  Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program.

The MBBS program is designed to prepare students for a dynamic and evolving healthcare environment. It emphasizes a curriculum that integrates foundational medical sciences with clinical practice, equipping graduates with the skills and knowledge required to excel in medical research, diagnosis, treatment, and patient care. The program also promotes interdisciplinary collaboration to address pressing health challenges.

The College of Health & Medicine collaborates closely with research centers, including the Center for Health and Wellbeing and the Center for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Research. These partnerships ensure that students and faculty are engaged in cutting-edge research and benefit from state-of-the-art facilities.

AASU is hereby inviting applications for the regular and visiting ranks of Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor for the 2025/2026 academic year. Candidates should have a proven track record for excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and also have an established research record, demonstrated by publishing high-impact papers and other applicable research outcomes.

Expectations, Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The selected faculty members are expected to teach deep subject knowledge, including teaching key concepts, current and relevant research, methodologies, tools, and techniques, along with meaningful applications. Additionally, faculty members are expected to work closely and maintain continuous affiliation with relevant research centers at AASU.

Specifically, faculty members at the college will be responsible for:

·        Participate in establishing the college for graduate and undergraduate medical education aligned with AASU's vision.

·        Conduct teaching and research in areas of health sciences and medical education.

·        Engage in high-impact research with demonstrated results through high-quality publications.

·        Develop international collaborations that reflect national needs and actively contribute to the scientific community both regionally and internationally.

·        Serve on program and college committees.

·        Teach undergraduate and graduate students.

·        Assist in curriculum development and periodic review.

·        Contribute to the establishment of the Health Informatics Lab and simulation centers.

·        Collaborate with other laboratories to support clinical training.

·        Coordinate with the Ministry of Health to implement the College's clinical training programs.

·        Cooperate with local and international institutions to develop joint programs.

·        Participate in designing student assessment strategies and program evaluations.

·        Participate in establishing the accreditation program and ensuring quality standards.

·        Undertake other tasks as assigned by the administration. 

Required Qualifications

·        A bachelor's degree in medicine or equivalent.

·        The Fellowship of the Royal Colleges in the UK and Ireland with a Certificate of completion of clinical training, American Board Certification, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification in related required fields such as Medicine, Psychiatry, Surgery, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Diagnostic Imaging, Nuclear Medicine, Pathology, Family Medicine or equivalent.

·        Applicants should have experience in teaching at an academic institution.

·        Applicants must have an active and continued proven track record of research, including high-quality publications in the relevant field in refereed international journals listed and indexed in the Journal Citation Report (JCR). The h-index (ISI/SCOPUS) should be no less than 15 for Professor ranks, 10 for Associate Professor ranks, and 5 for Assistant Professor ranks.

·        Applicants should have a strong record of mentoring and advising students and supervising other student-related activities.

·        Applicants must have the potential to attract funding from external funding sources/agencies, both locally and internationally.

·        Applicants should have previous experience in administrative, academic, or executive committees at the level of the program, college, or university.

·        Applicants should possess strong communication skills (in English), both written and verbal, as well as exceptional organizational skills, leadership skills in a multicultural and international environment with the ability to pursue and foster collaboration.

·        All applicants' degrees must be listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) or approved by AASU.

Required Experience

Applicants currently at least need to hold the position for which they are applying and have a minimum of 4 years (48 months) of residency in each rank before any academic promotion.

Full Professor

·         A Full Professor must have experience as a faculty member of not less than eight years in an accredited university, listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) or approved by AASU, after being recruited on the rank of Assistant Professor.

·         A Full Professor must have been scientifically recruited/promoted to the rank of Associate Professor and Professor at one of the institutions listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) or approved by AASU.

Associate Professor

·         An Associate Professor must have experience as a faculty member of not less than four years in an accredited university, listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) or approved by AASU after being recruited on the rank of Assistant Professor.

·         An Associate Professor must have been scientifically recruited/promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor and Associate Professor at one of the institutions listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) or approved by AASU.

Assistant Professor

·         An Assistant Professor must have experience as a faculty member of not less than two years in an accredited university, listed in the National Bureau for Academic Accreditation and Education Quality Assurance (NBAQ) or approved by AASU after being recruited on the rank of Assistant Professor.

Required Documents

1.      Cover Letter - Introducing the applicant and stating what program and rank the applicant is applying for and why.

2.      Updated and comprehensive CV, which should include information on employment history, teaching experience, committees and administrative experience, full list of publications, research activities and grants, students’ supervision, consulting, honors, awards, and others as applicable.

3.      Scanned copies of all academic degrees and transcripts.

4.      Evidence of teaching experience.

5.      Statement of research interests.

6.      Statement of teaching philosophy and interests.

7.      Official documents of chronological experience.

8.      Names/affiliation and contact details of at least three professional referees.

9.      Copies of two citation reports (Web of Science and/or Scopus).

Authenticated copies of all degrees must be provided by shortlisted applicants.
